guide to doing your Market Research Interviews

Friends & Family

Hi Mike, Hope you’re doing well. Your Disneyland photos on Facebook look so fun!

I wanted to reach out because I’m working on launching my (name of your program).

From previous conversations with you, you’ve always been a source of really great insight and advice, and so I’d love to set up some time to interview you.

Your input would be invaluable!

I have a couple of specific questions I’d like to ask you. Would you be available to speak sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday for about 15 minutes?

(I can also work around your schedule, so feel free to suggest a couple of other times if that’d be better for you.)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Post for free consultations

ONLY post this in a promo friendly group.

This is NOT an interview, just have them tell you their struggles and listen, ask “tell me more about that” or “how long have you been feeling this way” questions.

Get on ZOOM with Me for 30 Minutes for FREE

You know that whole idea of giving back? Well, I figure I haven’t done enough of that lately. So, I came up with this idea:

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to do somewhere around 20-30 Zoom consultations. I’ll get on Zoom with you for 30 minutes, and you can tell me what’s troubling you about (their thing). I’ll then give you advice specific to your exact situation.

Oh, and did I mention that I’m going to do it absolutely for free?

No sales pages. No opt-ins. No questionnaires.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post, telling me your biggest frustration right now. I’ll contact you by DM, have a quick chat to see if I can help, and then we’ll schedule a time to chat.

Simple enough?

Good then. Together, we’ll have your (their issue) sorted in no time. So start writing that comment!

Post for survey research

You’ll get a better response if you offer an incentive in exchange for their time.

And the incentive must be relevant to them. If you’re in a “travel hacks” Facebook group, don’t offer a guide on losing weight!

Also, it’s a best practice to check with the group’s administrator to be sure such surveying is permitted. Most will allow it if there are no promotions or sales involved.

Hi guys,

In return, just to say thanks, I’ll be very happy to send you/help you with [insert your incentive — e.g., free meal planner, website review, clarity call, etc.].

Just to be clear, I won’t be trying to sell you anything. I just want to understand you guys better. 🙂

“Thank you so much for spending time with me today! Before we begin, I want to make sure we have 20 minutes on the clock.

Great – I want to respect your time. During this call my goal is to get as much honest advice and feedback as I can about what I’m working on for my business.

Don’t worry, I’m not trying to sell you anything, I’m genuinely looking for feedback.

Is it okay if I take notes – I don’t want to forget anything you say….

Great! Before I ask my first question, do you have any questions for me? (Answer if applicable…)

Let’s get started…”

INTERVIEW ENDING SCRIPT

Ending the call appropriately will convey professionalism and value to your interviewee.

You can say something like…

“Thank you so much for your feedback and advice! I really appreciate you and your time.

I’m planning on interviewing about 25 more people. Is it okay if I follow up with you if I have any other questions or learn something new that may be interesting to you?

Great! I’ll talk to you soon!”

Then, send them an email/voice-memo/video telling them thank you, again, saying…

“Hey ____, thanks so much again for your time yesterday.

I’m still sitting and going over my notes and am so glad I interviewed you because you gave really great feedback.

Anyways, hope you’re having a great day! Talk soon!”

Make the transition to sale:

During these interviews, you can expect people to ask you for help. Once you have conducted your initial interview and this question comes up; it’s important to be prepared.

Preparation:

Is this person a good fit for you and your service as it stands now (can you help them)?

If you feel they are a perfect fit, and you find they are motivated, go straight for the sale.

Answer: Yes, I can help you with X so you can get to Y (give a brief overview of what you do)

My everyday price for this is (increase your price) but because you helped me with the interview, I can book you in for X amount.

Example: My everyday price to help you overcome your anxiety and build your confidence for that job interview is $1500.

But because you helped me with the interview I can book you in for $1000 and finally help you over your anxiety and fill you with confidence so you smash your job interview and increase the success you have in all areas of your life.
